31% of Canadians still feel that winning the lottery is the solution to their financial woes!
Most people have hopes, dreams and aspirations of winning the lottery. People lament that their life would be better if they won the lottery. They would be happier and they would be at peace. They assume that the winning lottery ticket will free them from whatever bad financial situation they are currently struggling with. It's a comforting dream, no doubt. All their problems washed away with an unexpected infusion of cash.
The problem is that this type of magical thinking can really hold us back.
When we wish for just one big thing that can transform our lives, we often overlook the thousands of little steps we can take right now that can add up to real change. You can dream of seeing yourself in the newspaper holding a lottery cheque of hundred thousand dollars. But, if you save $250 a month, your will have up to a hundred thousand in about 10 years.
You can dream of debt freedom when you have a pile of bills sitting in front of you, but if you focus on simply tackling one of those debts, it will go away before very long. Follow it with focus on the next debt and that one vanishes. Before long, the mountain of debts will whittle away. You can dream of winning the lottery to invest in your first real estate investmeht or you can focus on saving for a down payment and getting your feet wet. Every big dream we have CAN be attained....one little step at a time. It ooks enormous and distant, and it feels almost impossible to reach. Yet, with every step we take, that enormous goal gets a little closer. It gets a little clearer. The next step seems a little easier.
Continue to dream and hope about becoming financially free. But, take action and be disciplined at the same time. Your chances of being struck by lightning are greater than winning the lottery. How many people do you know who have been struck by lightning?
